Artist Biographies:

"Born in Israel in 1986, Ziv Taubenfeld is a young, up-and-coming talent on bass clarinet and one of the best improvisers around at the moment. He first studied in Israel, then in the Netherlands. He lives in Amsterdam and has worked with, among others, drummer Han Bennink, clarinetist Ab Baars and composer-pianist Guus Janssen. Taubenfeld is currently the leader of the trio Bones whose other members are his childhood friends: drummer Nir Sabag and bassist Shay Hazan. Taubenfeld also plays with the bands Kuhn Fu, Plots and XPE. Hazan is also from Israel and studied at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance. Drummer Sabag trained at the Israel Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv. The trio's self-titled debut album was released in 2016. The second release by this Netherlands-based group is expected later this year."

"Nico Chientaroli (Buenos Aires, 1982)

Argentinian pianist, improviser and composer Nico Chientaroli started his career playing with different bands in Buenos Aires. He always felt strongly attracted to improvisation. Therefore he formed his trio recording three albums where he explored improvisation through his compositions. He also participated in many projects related to jazz and improvisation in Buenos Aires. He moved to Amsterdam in 2013 to continue with his work and development.

As a pianist, he explores and expands the boundaries of the piano developing a very personal way of playing. In reviews his music is described as "a magnificent and extraordinary journey of sound. Some Improvisations enable beautifully structured and impressively melodic textures to surface."

Until now, Nico Chientaroli has played with improvisers such as Ab Baars, Ig Henneman, Michael Moore, Mary Oliver, Wolter Wierbos, Michael Vatcher, Ada Rave, Raoul van der Weide, Richard Barret, Carlo Mascolo, Felicity Provan, Mars Williams, Wilbert De Joode, Nicola Hein, William Parker, John Dikeman, Carl Ludwig Hübsch, Jasper Stadhouders, Onno Govaert, dancers Kenzo Kusuda, Ana Leonor Ladas and Makiko Ito among others."

"Raoul van der Weide (Fontenailles / Fr, 1949) played 6 years of classical violin in the Northern Netherlands Youth Orchestra. As a bassist he developed largely autodidactic but also studied classical double bass at John Clayton and Norma Brooks. Contrast point at Guus Janssen. Feel inspired by inspiration and improvisational practice in the free but unstructured views of various musicians like Paul Termos, Guus Janssen, Lennie Tristano, Misha Mengelberg, Jimmy Giuffre, Steve Lacy, Ornette Coleman, Derek Bailey, Charles Mingus and Munir Bashir.

As an improviser, the creative focus is on the development possibilities of open personal aesthetics in the broadest sense. The continued deepening of its own sound, intonation and power of expression - of the musical fingerprint - is considered important.Van Raoul van der Weide published the solo CD 'Passages' (GeestGronden # 24 / www.geestgronden.com) at the beginning of 2006, to which De Volkskrant and promising 4 stars discussion was dedicated.

Worked together in Bert Koppelaar's POINT OF ORCHESTURE, Paul Termos Trio, Guus Jansen Septet / Octet / Orchestra, Burton Greene Quartet / Trio Spazio Trio (with K. Bauer and Guenther Sommer), Luc Houtkamp Quartet, Ab Baars Sextet, Peter Zegveld projects ('Caspar Rapak' and 'Statua Tumultus'), The Gravitones (Winners Dordtse Jazz Prize 1995), Joost Buis & The Famous Astronotes, Sound-Lee! Quartet ('Plays the Music of Lee Konitz'), New Crosscurrents Sextet."

"George Hadow represents the newest wave of improvisers to hit the Dutch scene. Like many of the active newcomers, George is an expat, hailing from Devon in the UK. George first came to the Netherlands in 2011 to take part in the Dutch Impro Academy, where he studied with Han Bennink and Michael Moore, among others. He has quickly developed into a mature musician, playing with acute sensitivity as well as unbridled power.

The list of regular groups with whom he performs is impressive for its scale and diversity: The Blue Lines Trio, Mulligan - Baker Project, Terrie Ex/Raoul van der Weide/George Hadow, Aya ba yaya, Almeida/Dikeman/Hadow, Molino, Galm Quartet. George has also collaborated with Andy Moor, Roy Paci, Anne-James Chaton and Joe Williamson, The Ex and Cactus Truck as well as countless ad hoc combinations."

descriptions, reviews, &c.

"Few musicians from the Portuguese scene of creative jazz and free on improvisation have gained, like Luis Vicente, the international importance that we are witnessing for the news of their concerts outside the doors and the record releases in which we find it with musicians from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Poland. This is the case of the new Music From Any Moment, released by the Zwerv band now converted from a quintet to a septet with the addition of trombonist Salvoandrea Lucifera and pianist Nico Chientaroli.

If the first record we heard with guitarist Henk Zwerver, Ziv Taubenfeld (bass clarinet), Raoul van der Weide (bass) and George Hadow (drums), Zwerv Live, was defined by the jazz of Eric Dolphy and Booker Little, here they are given over to free expression of the typically textural approaches to improvisation in the mole of their strongest stylistic lines, the British, as defined by figures like Derek Bailey (Zwerver's major influence), Evan Parker, John Stevens and Cornelius Cardew.

Still, and although little survives in this context of the matrices of the post on bop and of the free, the pointillism and the "bricolage" sound of this Zwerv has few relations to the "new school" of the improvised music and, in particular, with reductionism. Not only because there is nothing minimalist, or assumption of the aesthetics of silence, in the eight pieces assembled: the players do not hesitate to resort to repetitions of motifs and to phrase melodically and tonally when it makes sense, at times taking on an orchestral dimension.

The strategy they follow places them between the improvisational tradition born in the 1960s and the latest trends in this area of creative music. Vicente is like a fish in water, sometimes using the trumpet as emitter of borborygmus, sometimes acting in more conventional ways, always at the service of the timbre game that is being equated by the swarms of sound. Although his instrument, like all the others, sometimes dominates, this is a collective song, the very reason why there are no proper solos.

In their interaction of roles the group functions as a micro on society not organized hierarchically, but fulfilling the libertarian designs that gave origin to this musical practice, and that sometimes have been forgotten. A very recommended CD, therefore." on Rui Eduardo Paes, Jazz.pt, translated by Google & Squidco
