Florestan Berset is a swiss guitarist, mostly involved in Free Experimental Music.

"Are you playing yourself or are you playing the music? drummer Norbert Pfammatter likes to ask himself and others now and then. A question that not only postpones all other questions regarding people and art, but at the same time reveals the honesty of a musician who sees music as a guide to the pathless land.

"My most important influences are my teachers Billy Brooks, Pierre Favre, the great musicians of the jazz tradition, John Cage, all the musicians I was able to play with, the sounds that surround me, the great wise men of the East and the silence that they recommend to us."

Norbert Pfammatter was born on September 12, 1959 in the middle of the Swiss mountains, in Visp. He spent his youth in Brig, preferably outdoors in the beautiful and formative nature. Fascinated by Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis and Frank Zappa, he began playing drums at the age of 13 and increasingly moved his free time to the cellars of the small Valais town.

After six years of self-taught research into his instrument, the young drummer decided in 1978 to leave the conducive peace and yet inhibiting isolation of the small town. He enrolled as a student at the Swiss Jazz School in Bern and, after a year and a half of lessons with Bob Cunningham and Heinz Lieb, finally met the great drummer Billy Brooks, whose presence in Bern can safely be described as a happy coincidence.

Inspired by the suddenly diverse stimuli and the inspiring encounter with the music of Charlie Parker and John Coltrane, Norbert Pfammatter switched to the Swiss Jazz School vocational school after graduating from high school in 1980.

The first important musical connections develop, such as with the Hungarian bassist Tibor Elekes, the trumpeter Umberto Arlati, the trombonist Robert Morgenthaler, the saxophonist Andy Scherrer and the North German pianist Jochen Bohnes.

When Norbert Pfammatter completed his studies at the SJS with a diploma in 1985, he was hired there as a teacher in the same year. After his first recordings, including with the formation around the saxophonist Beat Wenger, he was employed as a drum set teacher at the Biel Conservatory in 1989, the intensive and ongoing collaboration with the saxophonist Donat Fisch, and the influential musical encounter with the American cellist Muneer B. Fenell and his "Rhythm String Band", as well as the Detroit drummer Doug Hammond and the adventurous collaboration with bassist Bänz Oester that continues to this day.

Starting with Turkish, Bulgarian, Romanian and Yiddish folk music and mostly odd meters, Norbert Pfammatter has been contributing his playing to the "Schönhaus Express" ensemble of the saxophonist and composer Sascha Schönhaus since 1993 and on three recordings.

In 1994, Norbert Pfammatter became a lecturer in drums at the Lucerne University of Music.

In the selected overview of the following years, the trio G.A.S., founded in 1996, is said to be with the pianist Hans Feigenwinter and the bassist Bänz Oester, which released the much praised recording of the "Great American Songs" three years later. Likewise the ongoing collaboration with the composer and clarinetist Don Li, which resulted in the CD "Trigon" in 2000. Equally important is the drum ensemble founded in 2001 by drummer Pierre Favre, as well as the quartet around singer Elina Duni, with the highly praised debut CD "Baresha" in 2008, and then especially with the two productions "Matanë Malit" and "Dallëndyshe". for ECM Records.

The drum improvisation duo Traktor met a painful end with the unique drummer and friend Fabian Kuratli, due to his illness and shockingly early death in 2008.

Norbert Pfammatter plays concerts in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa, Latin America and the USA and also considers himself lucky to have worked with many exponents of the national scene, as well as with many big and small stars of the international scene."

"Born in Italy, Francesco Losavio began studying double bass with Silvia Bolognesi, Pietro Leveratto and Ferruccio Spinetti at Siena Jazz University, where he also studied composition with Bruno Tommaso and Roberto Spadoni, obtaining his degree in 2016. He continued his studies in Switzerland at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, obtaining a master's degree in music performance studying with Heiri Kaenzig, Christian Weber and Bänz Oester. He then completed a master's degree in music education at the Zurich University of the Arts, where along with his pedagogical studies he also focused on the classical double bass repertoire with Andreas Cincera and continued to deepen his knowledge of jazz music with Dominique Girod.

From 2012 Francesco has the opportunity to play and study with such great international musicians as Furio Di Castri, Matt Penmann, Larry Grenadier, Mark Turner, David Virelles, Reuben Rogers, Claudio Fasoli, Maurizio Giammarco, Ettore Fioravanti, Theo Blackmann, John Taylor, Tim Berne and Steve Lehman. In 2014 attend the International Summer Workshop of Siena Jazz. Since 2013 perform with a lot of jazz ensemble and big band. From the same year until 2016 attend the "Permanent Laboratories for Musical Research" conducted by Stefano Battaglia, workshop about musical research, improvisation and composition.

He played in several projects with musicians such as Michael Formanek, Norbert Pfammatter, David Virelles, Hans Feigenwinter, Christoph Grab, Ohad Talmor, Stefano Battaglia, Alessandro Giachero, Perico Sambeat and and many others. Till now he has performed in clubs and festivals all over Europe participating in the production of several albums.

The influences received between the intersection of genres as jazz, classical music and free improvisation have contributed to lead him to an intense research on instrumental aspects, composition and improvisation that continuously inspires his music. He founded two bands: "Directions" (released in 2021 with L. Gernet. N. Wenger, S. Frischknecht) and "Congreunt Circles" (with P. Almeida and B. Stanek), two projects that contain only original compositions written by himself.

Music to Francesco represents the vehicle by which we come to know ourselves in the most intimate and spiritual dimension but also the connecting link to the world and time around us.
